IAI Stadium Nihondaira
The Shimizu Nihondaira Sports Park Stadium was completed in June 1991 as a symbolic sports facility for “Shimizu, the City of Soccer,” and was used as the main venue for the soccer competition at the National High School Sports Festival held in Shizuoka Prefecture that same year.
Due to the success of Shimizu teams at events such as the National High School Sports Festival and the popularity of “Shimizu S-Pulse”—the only community-based team competing in the J.League with Shimizu as its home town—many soccer-related organizations and others using the stadium voiced concerns about the lack of spectator seating. Consequently, in March 1995, the stadium was rebuilt into a full-scale facility with a capacity of over 20,000.
Furthermore, to secure new revenue sources and contribute to sound financial management and the promotion of sports, the city solicited proposals for a naming rights partner. As a result, the stadium was officially renamed “IAI Stadium Nihondaira” on March 1, 2013, and has been known by that name ever since.
