Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art

Experience the World of Rodin at Nihondaira

The Prefectural Museum of Art, where the rich natural beauty of Nihondaira blends with art.

Inside, you’ll find landscape paintings from the 17th century onward, as well as masterpieces by artists with ties to Shizuoka.

The highlight is the “Rodin Hall,” which houses a permanent collection of 32 works by the world-renowned sculptor Auguste Rodin.

Works such as "The Gates of Hell" (over 6 meters tall) and "The Burghers of Calais" are gathered in one place, and visitors are overwhelmed by the beauty of the space as light streams in through the glass ceiling.

Furthermore, photography is permitted inside the Rodin Gallery (no flash).

It’s a real treat to be able to take commemorative photos with these masterpieces, such as a two-shot with “The Thinker.”

After viewing the exhibits, head to the outdoor promenade dotted with sculptures.

In this space where art and nature harmonize, take a moment to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life.
