Shizuoka City Keisuke Serizawa Museum of Art
Katazome by Living National Treasure Keisuke Serizawa, alongside art and craft treasures from around the world
This museum offers visitors the chance to experience the world of Keisuke Serizawa, a Living National Treasure and master of dyeing crafts.
Serizawa established "Kataezome," a style of stencil dyeing that incorporates his own unique creativity into traditional techniques, and his bold compositions and rich colors continue to be highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad.
In addition to approximately 1,300 of Serizawa’s works, the museum displays his collection of about 4,500 items gathered from around the world through exhibitions that rotate four times a year.
Visitors can experience the unique aesthetic sensibility and artistic vision of Serizawa, who was not only a great artist but also an outstanding collector.
The building was designed by Seiichi Shirai, known as the “Architect of Philosophy.”
True to its nickname, “Sekisui-kan” (Stone Water Hall), the space creates a fantastical atmosphere with its stately red granite exterior and abundant use of water.
Surrounded by the greenery of Toro Park, please enjoy a moment of tranquility as you immerse yourself in beauty and architecture.
