Shizuoka Prefectural Center for Buried Cultural Properties

The Shizuoka Prefectural Center for Buried Cultural Properties conducts archaeological excavations as a last resort to protect archaeological sites that cannot be preserved due to public works projects undertaken by the national government, the prefecture, and other entities. The Center also conveys the importance of cultural property preservation and the results of its research to the residents of Shizuoka and children through exhibitions and outreach classes.

The Center features a permanent exhibition where you can take your time viewing approximately 750 carefully selected artifacts from across the prefecture, tracing the flow of history from the Paleolithic era to the Edo period. There is also a hands-on corner where you can touch authentic pottery—and admission is free!

We are currently selling capsule toys featuring artifacts unearthed during excavations in the prefecture. The actual artifacts that served as models for these toys are also on special display!
