A Tour of Historic Post Towns Along the Old Tōkaidō: Enjoying the Townscapes and Traditional Cuisine

The Tōkaidō, one of Japan’s most iconic highways, has long been cherished as a route that conveys the country’s traditional charm and history.

The area stretching from Shizuoka City to Fujieda City—known as the "Two Passes and Eight Stops" of the Sunshu region—is said to offer the most beautiful views of Mount Fuji, allowing visitors to savor the unique, atmospheric scenery characteristic of this historic highway.

Along the route, numerous historic sites, scenic spots, and structures of great historical value remain, along with traditional culinary culture, creating a landscape dotted with spots that naturally invite you to stop and explore.

We also introduce a cycling course that follows the old Tokaido Road from Shizuoka City to Fujieda City.

You may discover new sights and shops that you would otherwise miss if traveling by car.

Along the way, you can savor local seafood and sweets while leisurely enjoying the scenery of the old highway.

A Journey Through Suruga Province (Fuchu-juku to Fujieda-juku)

This cycling route covers approximately 28 km from Fuchu-juku to Fujieda-juku (from present-day Shizuoka Station to Fujieda Station).

If you turn back at the Meiji Utsunoya Tunnel along the way, you can enjoy it as a roughly 20-kilometer round-trip course.

It’s perfect not only for a weekend day trip but also for a two-day, one-night getaway.

Tour of the Post Town Seals

The "Post Station Stamps," which you can collect as proof of visiting the post stations along the Tokaido Road, are sold all the way from "Nihonbashi" in Tokyo to the final stop, "Koraibashi" in Osaka,

covering all 57 stages of the Tokaido.

Why not try collecting the "Oshukuba Stamps" as a way to experience the culture of the Tokaido and discover new encounters and discoveries?
