Gotenyama
It is said that Gotenyama got its name because it was the mountain from which firewood and other supplies were gathered for the Kambara Palace, which was built in 1582 (Tenshō 10) by order of Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Records indicate that the Kamabara Palace served as a lodging for the shogunate when they traveled to Kyoto. However, as the need for such trips diminished, the palace fell into disuse after the third shogun, Iemitsu, stayed there for the last time. Later, it became the relocation site for Kamabara-juku, which had been washed away by a massive tsunami in 1699 (Genroku 12).
Gotenyama is a place that preserves the remnants of the Kambara Palace.
Today, it is known as one of the city’s premier cherry blossom viewing spots, and visitors can enjoy a light hike to the summit.
