Otani Landslide
Located at the source of the Abe River, which flows through Shizuoka City, this is a massive landslide site representative of the southern part of the Akaishi Mountains (Southern Alps) and is considered one of Japan’s three major landslides. It is believed to have been caused by the 1707 Hoei Earthquake. The landslide extends 800 meters down from the 2,000-meter-high Oya Ridge, with the volume of debris equivalent to about 100 Tokyo Domes. Visitors can drive to Ogi no Yō, a vantage point offering a full view of the site, and during the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn foliage, they can enjoy the natural beauty created by the interplay of exposed rock faces and trees.
