[Shizuoka Sunpu Museum] 45 days filled with love for cats. The story of art and life told by the “Tokyo Cat Art Exhibition in Shizuoka.”

An immersive art experience for all cat lovers is coming to Shizuoka.

Running from April 25 to June 14, the “Tokyo Cat Art Exhibition in Shizuoka” is a special space where cat lovers will be completely immersed in a 360-degree world of cats.

The venue is adorned with depictions of cats rendered in a diverse range of styles. From realistic paintings that masterfully capture even the texture of their fur to abstract works that showcase free-spirited creativity, a rich variety of “cats”—brought to life by the artists’ deep affection—welcome visitors.

Of particular note are the works by these multi-talented artists. The pieces by actor Masayo Kawasaki and comedian Nobuyuki Tsuchiya (of the comedy duo Knights) eloquently reveal their delicate sensibilities and unexpected sides—aspects quite different from the personas they typically display in the media.

However, this exhibition asks us to consider more than just “cuteness.”

The issue of “rescue cats” is inextricably linked to modern society. Cats are more than just objects of affection; they are beings that challenge us to consider how we, as humans, should engage with them and coexist with them.

As you find solace in these charming works, let your thoughts gently turn to the environment surrounding them.

This exhibition offers a warm opportunity to reflect openly on “how to get along well” with cats and the future we will share with them.
