[9:00] A Familiar Sight from Textbooks! Experience Ancient Life in a Yayoi-Period Settlement
The Toro Ruins, which are even featured in textbooks, are the remains of a representative Yayoi-period settlement designated as a National Special Historic Site.
With pit dwellings, raised-floor storehouses, and rice paddies stretching out before you, stepping inside allows you to experience firsthand what life was like 2,000 years ago.
The adjacent Shizuoka City Toro Museum features an extensive collection of excavated artifacts, including Important Cultural Properties, as well as hands-on activity areas.
In particular, the fire-starting experience using the “maigiri” method is very popular.
The thrill of seeing smoke rise and the fire ignite with your own hands is truly special.
It’s an experience that captivates not only children but also adults, who can rediscover their inner child.
Furthermore, outdoors, there are seasonal rice farming experiences such as planting and harvesting red rice, allowing you to learn about the lives of the Yayoi people while enjoying the process.
Forget the hustle and bustle of modern life and spend a relaxing time feeling the breeze of ancient times. Such a luxurious experience awaits you here.

Chōjiya
[1:30 PM] A taste that has remained unchanged for 400 years
A specialty restaurant serving tororo soup, established in 1596.
Featured in Utagawa Hiroshige’s ukiyo-e print “Mariko” from the “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō” series, this legendary establishment is said to have been visited by the famous travelers Yaji and Kita.
The signature "tororo soup" is a deeply flavorful dish made by combining Shizuoka-grown yam with homemade white miso and simmered tuna broth.
Pour this umami-rich tororo soup generously over barley rice and dig in heartily—the flavor of the yam and the richness of the broth will fill your mouth.
The restaurant also houses a museum, featuring a lineup of exhibits that evoke the atmosphere of the era, including works and travel gear associated with Matsuo Basho, Jippensha Ikku, and Utagawa Hiroshige.
Please enjoy this luxurious journey back in time, where you can savor the romance of history with both your taste buds and your eyes.
