Chōjiya
A taste that has remained unchanged for 400 years
A specialty restaurant serving tororo soup, established in 1596.
Featured in Utagawa Hiroshige’s ukiyo-e print “Mariko” from the “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō” series, this legendary establishment is said to have been visited by the famous travelers Yaji and Kita.
The signature "tororo soup" is a deeply flavorful dish made by combining Shizuoka-grown yam with homemade white miso and simmered tuna broth.
Pour this umami-rich tororo soup generously over barley rice and dig in heartily—the flavor of the yam and the richness of the broth will fill your mouth.
The restaurant also houses a museum, featuring a lineup of exhibits that evoke the atmosphere of the era, including works and travel gear associated with Matsuo Basho, Jippensha Ikku, and Utagawa Hiroshige.
Please enjoy this luxurious journey back in time, where you can savor the romance of history with both your taste buds and your eyes.
